ICE FISHING! Jan. 4
Friday, January 4 (KPBSD Vacation day)
9am-4pm
Ages: 8+
Nothing says, "Alaskan Winter Fun" better than drilling a hole in the ice, dropping a line and pulling out dinner! The lakes in Soldotna and Sterling are frozen and the trout are biting! HoWL and Dave Lyon of Ashore Water Taxi will supply the gear, the hot coco and wood for a nice warm fire! We will meet at 9 in the morning at little fireweed here in homer, and drive the HoWL van up to Johnson Lake, Dolly Varden lake or hike into one of the Swanson River Road lakes. If luck is with us we will come back to little fireweed at 4pm with fish for dinner. Participants learn how to rig lines, understand ice safety, learn to build a fire, hopefully catch and clean a couple of trout!
Bring your ice skates too!
Please pack a lunch and dress weather appropriate.
As on all HoWL trips, health, safety, teamwork and leadership development and fun are key elements to the success of the trip. Lessons on all of the above will enrich the outing during teachable moments. HoWL instructors of course have all the experience they need to keep everyone safe.
DiRtBaG scholarship funds are available for this expedition. Please refer to our SCHOLARSHIPS page for more information.
