Kachemak Crack
June 29-July 2 | Ages: 13+

Join HoWL for the best of beach base-camping at Kachemak Crack! Learn how to rock climb or practice your technique on the Salty Dawg route. If you’re not on the rocks, hop on a paddleboard, play games, try a craft, or practice your wilderness skills.
Edible Harvest
May 30-June 1 | Ages: 11-13

Could you survive in the wild? Learn to forage wild foods and practice backcountry cooking. We’ll backpack to our camp at Cottonwood Canyon where we’ll harvest our meals, practice survival skills, and play epic games of capture the flag.
Expedition Tutka
June 10-14 | Ages: 12-14

Are you ready for a kayak adventure? We will paddle along the Tutka Bay shoreline, staying at different campsites along the way. Paddle, day hike, and practice your wilderness skills on this five-day kayak exploration.
Fire & Ice
July 12-16 | Ages: 10-13

Fire and Ice is composed of three day trips, followed by a camping overnight. Over the first three days, HoWLers will explore local trails and learn skills that are essential for having adventures in the Alaskan wilderness. HoWLers can then practice their skills on a 2-day backpack in Kachemak Bay State Park.

Red Mountain Leadership
July 24-29 | Ages: 14+

Explore the otherworldly terrain of Red Mountain, where you can find abandoned mines, turquoise lakes, and unique rock formations. We’ll be going off-trail to summit Red Mountain, scouting a sparsely-travelled route through the mountains, and learning advanced wilderness skills.

Blueberry Bonanza

Feast on blueberries and SUP the day away! We’ll be base-camping near the head of Tutka Bay where we can swim, explore on paddle boards, forage for blueberries, and practice survival skills. Make the most of the end of summer with a 3-day HoWLing good time!

Experienced outdoor educators and aspiring volunteers will spend five days learning HoWL's unique teaching methodology while backpacking Tutka Lakes Trail and Red Mountain.
