HoWL Hunter Education Jan. 14-20 Age 9+
Ages 9 and up. Parents are welcome to register and take the class with their child.
January 14-20 4pm-6pm at Cook Inlet Keeper office.
Saturday & Sunday 10-4 @ Kachemak Gun Club
HoWL will be hosting a Hunter Education class taught by Jason Okuly of the Kachemak Bay State Parks and Dr. Michael Sturm of HoWL Alaska.
This class will be a week long after school seminar style class at the Cook Inlet Keeper office from 4pm to 6pm every day during the week of January 14-20. Saturday and Sunday will be spent at the Kachemak Gun Club for the field day and live fire competency portion of the course.
Alaska State Hunter Education workbooks will be provided to participants and each day a portion of the curriculum will be worked through. There will be homework associated with this class.
We will cover firearms handling, safety, transportation and storage, tracking, ethics, responsible hunting practices, wilderness safety, and numerous other important and relevant topics. Upon completion of this course participants receive a nationally/ internationally recognised Hunter Safety Certification Card.
Hunter Education is a serious undertaking and must be taken seriously by participants. It is necessary that participants are present for each day of this course.
While this course is designed to work through material slowly to ensure participant mastery, the course is rigorous. Focus, maturity and dexterity are necessary to pass the live fire competency portion of the course. For these reasons HoWL recommends participants ages 9 and above attend.
Completion of this course qualifies youth participants to attend HoWL's Small Game Hunt!
As on all HoWL trips, health, safety, teamwork and leadership development and fun are key elements to the success of the trip. Lessons on all of the above will enrich the outing during teachable moments. HoWL instructors of course have all the experience they need to keep everyone safe.
Please note your Client Responsibilities: 1) all clients will be required to follow the safety policies and procedures of HOWL and the guides’ instructions during activities. 2) All clients (and parents) will be required to sign a Participant Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement in favor HOWL before departing on any trip; and 3) each client (and their parents) agree and acknowledge when they sign up for HOWL activities that they have significant responsibilities for their own safety and they agree they are ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE for their own safety during participation in HOWL activities.
