“Dirtbag” is a climbing term attributed to someone so dedicated to the sport of rock climbing that they will literally sleep in the dirt at the base of a wall just so they can get an alpine start on an epic climb in the morning. They wake up in their sleeping bags, dirty and ready to rock.
At HoWL, we always sleep in the dirt (well okay, usually in tents and sometimes on ice). But we recognize and celebrate young folks committed to pursuing their passion, regardless of the cost.
We offer full and partial DiRtBaG Scholarships based on leadership, teamwork and financial need so that every student who has the desire, also has the opportunity to participate in HoWL trips. Our annual DiRtBaG Clean-Up Week helps support our scholarship fund, as do the generous donations of local businesses and individuals.
Thanks to 100 Women Who care for their generous donation to Howl's 2022 dirtbag program!
Nice work DiRtBaGgers!
HoWL's 2022 clean-up was a remarkable success! More than 80 kids and a dozen volunteers participated in collecting 110 bags of trash and recycling from 20 miles of roadways and beaches! In just one week!
Many thanks to our 2022 community sponsors !
